Anna Knaus, RNC on Labor and Delivery at CRMH showed her dedication to her patients and coworkers by walking to work (4 miles) in the middle of a snow storm.   After 2 hours of walking in 8 inches of snow, Anna arrived early to her shift to help her coworkers on a very busy night.  Anna is the epitome of Carilion's core values of collaboration, commitment and courage.  We love you Anna!  Thank you for being such a great team player!  Anna, call us next time.  We will come and get you! :)

I would like to thank Robert Debarge, RN [a travel nurse hired to our floor (IPR-Rehab7)], for braving the elements to go and pick up 2 of our other travel RNs so that they were able to make it to their shift Sunday night and then he took them home in the morning. Because of his commitment to his coworkers, we were able to safely take care of our patients that night. Thank you for being so brave! 

A caring and kind CT technologists walked 4 miles in the snow to get to work to help his team.  Zlatan is always smiling and a joy to be around.  His 2 hour trek is a testament to his dedication.

Jacob Thornton, CT Technologist at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital noticed an abnormality on a patient scan that hadn't been reported. He explained his concern to the ordering provider who in turn discussed the scan with a Radiologist who agreed. The correct diagnosis was subsequently made leading to appropriate treatment, all during the time frame of the patient encounter. Way to go Jake! Thank you for your attention and vigilance. Your willingness to speak up and follow through made a critical difference to the care of this patient.

CRBH Pharmacy Director Jessica Saville would like to recognize CRBH Pharmacy Technician Tonya Beverley for her recent Great Catch.  While refilling the Pyxis, Tonya discovered a discrepancy with a 200 mg Remdesivir dose, and that all of the necessary components for the mixture were not present. She removed the medication and ensured that the correction was made.  Great catch Tonya!  Thank you for helping to ensure patient safety at CRBH!

These people are working their buns off every day to perform a vital service to us all. I've utilized this facility twice so far and every time there is a long double line of cars waiting for testing but it runs rather smoothly considering. I know they are stressed but I want them to know how much we appreciate their hard work, dedication and ability to remain calm and pleasant under all this pressure. Thank you!!

Daryl Johnson, EVS Tech, went beyond the call of duty. A patient was discharged and he left his personal pillow, when the room was cleaned it was thrown away in the trash, the trash went out to the big dumpster outside, the patient's family member called and asked do we have his pillow, well of course we could not find it.  Daryl went dumpster diving and found the pillow, it was cleaned and returned to the patient.

Now that's going Beyond the Call of Duty.

I wanted to highlight a few Materials Management staff and their dedication to our clinicians and patient care.  Travis Hurt drove over 12 hours to obtain surgical gloves from a vendor in South Carolina.  Leonard Dishner answered the call to deliver ventilators to Carilion Rockbridge Hospital. Mike Maddox drove to Carilion New River Valley to transition cardiac monitors from Carilion Giles Memorial that were desperately needed in the Emergency Department at Roanoke Memorial.  I have an awesome team that always go above and beyond!

Jessica Saville (CRBH Pharmacy Director) would like to recognize Joshlyn Resek for her Great Catch.  Joshlyn found and corrected a medication discrepancy in the Pyxis system at CRBH, thus ensuring patient safety.  Great work Joshlyn!
