CRBH Emergency Department, Infection Prevention and Emergency Management participated in a surprise learning scenario to simulate suspect monkeypox patients arriving at the ED. The staff stayed calm, participated as if it were a real situation and met the learning objectives. They were able to quickly identify, isolate and inform thus keeping both patients and staff safe.

Please join me in recognizing the excellent work of Inpatient Psychiatry staff working the acute admission unit. During their shift, they went from only 3 patients to a full census, even managing 3 admissions at once with their expertise. They exhibited amazing teamwork by working together flawlessly, and all had a very positive attitude while facing this challenge. They gave compassionate and individualized care to each patient and utilized their specialized skill sets to build rapport.
Kudos for staying the course and being committed to ensuring I had what I needed to "do the job." I really appreciate the research and diggin' to find the answer! Annette Blackwell you made it happen and I am so thankful!

Shout out to mental health social worker, Alicia Baxter, who went above and beyond to get a patient to a alcohol treatment facility in GA. She reached out to facility multiple times over the weekend, arranged transportation, lodging AND drove to the rescue mission twice to attempt to obtain patient belongings before transport. She kept the patient and myself informed every step of the way. So thankful to have mental health social workers in our RMH ED on the weekends! She is a wealth of knowledge and is passionate and compassionate about our community.
We are excited to recognize Maxine Green, ICU RN for her Great Catch. Maxine went to the Pyxis cubbie to pull a medication and found that there was another medication stocked in that cubbie in addition to what she needed to pull. She and a co-worker completed an inventory, removed the incorrect stock and completed the count so that the drawer was accurate.

The Emergency Department at Carilion Clinic Roanoke Memorial Hospital has had its fair share of hard times throughout the years and 2020-current has been particularly difficult as one would imagine during a pandemic. There are more than a few employees in the ER that have stood the test of time and have continued to provide world class care in the face of many adversities and hardships. More than 100 to be precise and the list of people would fill this entire page!
A special shout out to the entire team who took care of me through a difficult time: Velocity Care, Dr. Christian Klaus, Dr. Steve Cromer, Dr. Cesar Bravo, Dr. Michael O’Malley and my physical therapy team. I ruptured my hamstring, requiring surgery and living in a brace with my leg at a 90-degree angle for 6 weeks. When I finally got the brace unlocked, I fell and broke my arm.
Kim Manning is celebrating 42 years with Carilion RMH! She helped open and has been faithfully serving 10MPCU for the past 20+ years! Her work and presence is invaluable to the unit. Thank you is not enough for what Kim adds to our unit. I really appreciate you Kim!
