Greg Madsen was shown trash out in the main parking lot on Tuesday 08/30/2022. In today's world most people in his position would have said not my job! Not Greg, he went to EVS asked if they had a grabber and trash bag. He then proceeded to go outside pick up the trash and while doing so conversated with people waiting in their cars for their loved ones. This is a wonderful example of commitment and leadership in my book!

I wanted to share a letter that demonstrates excellent work and commitment for a great cause. As you may know, there is a critical blood shortage. At Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, we host  the American Red Cross frequently for blood drives and the work that Debbie Weems, our staff and our community do here at CFMH to help with this shortage is nothing short of amazing. I am very proud of everyone here at CFMH for their commitment to their hospital and community.

Congratulations to Interventional Radiology on five new Sonosite Ultrasound machines! On August 16th, the IR team, along with Dr. Dan Karolyi, Chair of Radiology, and Dr. Thomas Bishop, Section Chief of IR, celebrated the arrival of the innovative equipment with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sonosite Ultrasound machines will improve patient outcomes, procedural efficiency, and workflow. Helping the IR staff and improving the patient’s experience is a win-win!

Jade Terifay on 5W has been wonderful to work with. She goes out of her way to help the entire floor and she sees a chance to educate others on anything she sees, she does it and she does it with a kindness not often found.

She took time out of her busy day to help sign me off on some of my competencies and I know she is as willing to work with others as she is me. She truly fits all the five C's that Carilion stands for and she does it with a smile. I appreciate you!

A handful of EEG Technicians came to the rescue as staffing challenges unexpectedly popped up.  They not only stepped up to help their fellow co-workers but most importantly stepped up to help cover shifts to ensure our patients received the care they needed!  A huge thank you to Isaac Dailey, Mishelle Slash, Chelsey Stanley, Sharday Rosser, Samantha Wells, and Megan Ragland who either picked up extra shifts, flipped from days to nights to cover shifts, or covered call to help our department in a time of need!  Their commitment to our patients and our Neurodiagnostics Departm

Thank you for participating in the recent Feeding Southwest Virginia (FSWVA) Food Drive to ensure that our community has enough food to support their health and wellbeing. Together, partners Delta Dental, Freedom First and Carilion Clinic employees collected 2,000 pounds of food! Our teams in the New River Valley, Tazewell and Franklin County added another 289 food item donations to other local food pantries. We appreciate your generosity toward the communities we serve.

Carilion Giles Community Hospital has been named as a 5-STAR hospital by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)!  Only 13.8% of hospitals across the country achieved this level of recognition.  This rating is compiled based upon performance with patient outcomes and safety, re-admissions, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
