The CMC Ancillary Council is so happy to announce that Whitley Nelson, Patient Care Technician,  won the BEE award for the month of February 2023!  The BEE Award represents the best of our CMC Ancillary Staff who contribute to the best possible care for our patients and families.  This nomination shows that Whitley went above and beyond to prevent a bad outcome for one of our patients.

Congrats to CRMH and all of the teams that contributed to achieving our newly-appointed Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center certification through The Joint Commission!  The NeuroInterventional Team is pictured here and is the elite crew who provides the advanced care necessary for thrombectomy during stroke.  Through a single needle stick, this team uses advanced methods for the retrieval/removal of clots formed in the brain.

The rehab liaisons want to send a HUGE shout out to Alan Mitchell and Morgan Yopp for going above and beyond to get one of our rehab patients back to CIPR before his insurance authorization expired.  This showed great commitment to the patients we serve at Carilion as they were towards the end of their shift in what apparently was a VERY busy day!  Thank you Alan and Morgan :)

Kassie Hall, PA and Michelle Green, LPN providing care to a patient who was not able to come into the clinic for a face-to-face and did not have the capability to participate in a virtual visit.   These obstacles do not stop the staff from providing the best care possible to their patients. 

Enormous thank you to Nurse Carolyn Arnold and Dr. Patrick Dugom for their time and attentiveness to a Palliative patient in the Palliative unit today.  A patient that we received from the ICU had a bleeding event mid afternoon and when our Palliative provider reached out to the ICU team for assistance, both Carolyn and Dr.

When we rolled the Insulin TAG Project out to CFMH & CRBH, Jeremy Cosgriff, PA at CRBH was a great resource for us. He reached out to the insulin TAG team about the glucose checks not being on the admission tab for our new orderset. He was exactly right! By him speaking up about it, we were able to fix it immediately and improve the process for all other providers. The insulin TAG team was super thankful he reached out and identified this problem for them!

Once again, Annette came to my rescue with a last minute audio-visual need, working after hours and getting creative on how to solve the problem at hand - extracting a 1 minute video clip with audio from a single huge data file from a 90 minute webinar. My nickname for Annette is 'MacGyver' - she can build you a solution quickly from whatever materials she has on hand! Thank you Annette - you exemplify Carilion's value of Commitment!

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day from the 4 South Preop/PAPA. They enjoyed boosting patients spirits prior to surgery on St. Patrick's Day with their festive attire and big smiles! :-) 

Congratulations to CVI – Cardiac Cath Lab for achieving American College of Cardiology (ACC) accreditation!!

Thank you to Dr. Dehmer, Dr. Mirza and Lou Ann Janney for their leadership through this journey. Everyone should be very proud for this achievement. All phases of care are evaluated in this accreditation for a cardiac cath patients!!

CRBH would like to recognize Gabrielle Lewis PA-C who works in the ED. She has been very instrumental in helping the department lower their left without being seen rates. She is always willing to go above and beyond and we greatly appreciate the hard work she puts in here at CRBH!
