Shout-out to CRBH's Bretty Justo, RN for her recent Great Catch involving catching an insulin order discrepancy on the MAR.  Bretty further investigated and determined that the order wasn't supposed to start until today (08/11/2023) even though it was showing to be given in the evening on 08/10/2023.  Bretty's actions prevented a patient from being given an unnecessary dose of Lantus. Great job Bretty, and thank you for consistently ensuring patient safety at CRBH!

Shout-out to CRBH ED RN Ann Gentry for her great catch involving finding a discrepancy in an inpatient insulin order.  The inpatient order was for an amount that was too high for the patient.  Great Catch Ann!  Thank you for all that you to do consistently ensure patient safety at CRBH!

Andrew Tarasidis, PharmD was recognized August 6th by the Virginia Pharmacy Association (VPhA) as The Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award.  This award is presented annually to young pharmacists across the United States. This award recognizes individual excellence and outstanding contributions to pharmacy associations and communities by new practitioners.

Congratulations to NICU, they have been 1 year without a ventilator associated event (VAE).  Thank you for your commitment to patient safety.

Fiorella Chavez-Yost, or Fio as we all call her, is simply put THE BEST!  We started a new initiative with on-site clinical coordinators imbedded in our emergency departments throughout Carilion a little over a year ago.  Fio went onsite in July of 2022 and she is making quite the impact.  Fio has a keen eye for identifying any potential gaps in care.  Fio has made an impact on connecting patients to follow-up care for the TCH ED.  She works tirelessly to connect patients to primary care and when needed, specialty care post ED Discharge.  Fio

Luke Swatzyna, PA-C has been recognized as 2023 PA of the Year by the Virginia Academy of PAs (https://www.vapa.org/2023-vapa-award-winners/).  Mr. Swatzyna has provided exceptional patient care for Carilion Family Medicine at the Salem and Daleville locations for over 10 years.  He continues to work clinically while serving to educate future PA providers as a faculty member in the Department of PA Studies at Radford University, located at the Radford University Carilion site.  Congratulations Luke!!  A much deserved recognition!
