The DAISY Award was established in 1999 as a tribute from the Barnes' family to their dear son Patrick who died at age 33. They recognized while he was in the hospital, the extraordinary care that his nurses displayed not only to him but to his family. Jodi's story indicates just that care and compassion for this family. Our Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital Quarter Century Society held a breakfast at Ferrum College on Monday, August 14th. There were several new members of our society and we enjoyed "going through the line" with the Ferrum College Panthers. Talk about feeling youthful again!!! Ed Gravely drives the golf cart shuttle around the campus of CNRVMC. He is celebrating his 85th birthday today! Ed is a wonderful employee and takes pride in his job helping people navigate the parking situation at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. In honor of his birthday, balloons were tied to the golf cart so everyone can wish him well on his special day! If you see him, be sure to wish him a "Happy Birthday!"

Thank you to everyone who was a part of 94.9 Star Country's Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon on Aug. 11. With your help, we were able to raise $163,396 for our pediatric patients undergoing cancer treatment at Carilion Children's, a proud member of Children's Miracle Network.

CGCH has received a 5-Star rating from CMS for the second year in a row. The star rating is assigned based upon 46 quality metrics, which are divided into five categories: safety of care, mortality, patient experience, readmission rates and timely and effective care. The data reporting periods run from July 2018- March 2022, depending on the measure.
