When the COVID-19 pandemic began, many of us switched from in-person meetings to virtual meetings. Our organization has been using two different virtual meeting platforms—Cisco Webex and Microsoft Teams. We are adopting Microsoft Teams for all virtual meetings and team collaboration. The goal is to phase out Webex by Sept. 30. Groups who currently use Webex Training Center will not be affected at this time.
Extensive renovations are underway, both inside and outside Tanglewood Mall in Roanoke!
Officially known as the Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center, the building is planned to be completed in August 2021, with an official opening in early October.

Stories of the Heart is an annual program that brings together our cardiac, thoracic and vascular teams to meet some of the patients they have had the honor of treating. Each year, a few patients are featured; they have the opportunity to tell their story and thank their care teams.
Each year, we host a Stories of the Heart celebration to feature these filmed stories and invite all recognized staff—as well as any other staff who want to attend.

At the turn of the 20th century, Roanoke was a young, industrial town crowded with laborers who had come to work for the Norfolk and Western Railway. It was a time when medical advances were just coming to the Roanoke Valley. It was also a time of two distinct societies separated by skin color. One thing the African-American community did not have was adequate healthcare.
