Congratulations to Jacob Carrick, Brandan Arthur, Will Rogers, and Abigail Bertram for recently completing their Paramedic course and obtaining their Virginia Paramedic certifications. Jacob, Will and Abigail were recently promoted to from their EMT-Basic roles to a Paramedic role with the Roanoke and Giles Transport teams, respectively. Brandan was recently promoted from his EMT-Intermediate role to Paramedic role with the Roanoke Transport team.

Trish was taking a large bin of trash to the dumpster when she noticed a trash bag with regulated medical waste items inside. This was a great catch to identify this before it went to the landfill. Trish’s cross  monitoring skills helped us to avoid a compliance issue and potential fines.

Carilion Clinic Homecare Occupational Therapist, Lindsay Ruch, was working with a homebound, visually impaired patient.  The recently blind woman was struggling with completing her Home Exercise Program for strength and conditioning.  Lindsay figured out a way to utilize the patient’s Amazon Echo device in her home to provide prompting, verbal cueing, and even encouragement to assist in completing her home exercises independently!  This innovative thinking embraces the Carilion values of curiosity, commitment, and compassion.  When I learned of what Lindsay a

That's the exit Kim Carter, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, Sr Director of Nursing Research envisions for herself...because that is who she is. One of the must humble and modest leaders I have ever known. Kim will be retiring from Carilion on Friday. John Quincy Adams said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader". Those are words that Kim lived by. In her over 37 year career, Kim was a staff nurse, public health nurse, nurse educator, professor, researcher and published author.

Awesome job, Karen Tomlin, CRBH Pharmacy Tech!  Karen caught that a patient had been taking too much Lopressor (blood pressure medication) that had been prescribed by both her PCP and cardiologist.  Karen called both physicians to reconcile dosages.  Thanks to Karen for being a diligent patient advocate!!
