My colleagues handle emergencies all day long in their work and most of them are actual emergencies. This morning my "emergency" was handled with the highest degree of professionalism. Upon arriving, I was confronted with a small mouse and I texted a friend, Ron Meadows, for back-up. He was on his way, but before he could make it, James Crowley, swooped in and saved the day without a second thought. A big thanks to my office-mates for handling the unexpected "emergencies" that arise each day.

Bed Bug Policy has been changed system wide to ensure our patients and staff are safe! Thanks to all involved in reporting up the difficulties we had on getting those rooms cleaned! Your hard work and willingness to voice concerns is what made this happen! I cannot be more proud of a team that is willing to speak up and build the environment we all want to work in!!
Today a very small child slipped away from their parents in the parking lot.Trish Akers drives our golf cart and was flagged down in the parking lot and told about the situation. Trish quickly alerted hospital security and then she started looking for the child.She was able to locate the child, which had already made its way behind a fence off of hospital property. Her prompt actions helped ensure the child's safety and prevented a potentially dangerous situation.
Officer Darryl Miley with Carilion Police recently participated in a 274 mile bike ride to raise money for the Officer Down Memorial Page, Spirit of Blue and Concerns of Police Survivors. The group raised $65000!!! Great job!!!
Desiree Caldwell, RN on Med Surgical unit at CGCH picked up that a patient had two different orders for a replacement medication, when the patient's serum level was returning to normal. She brought it to the attention of the provider and both orders were cancelled. Desiree's attention to detail prevented the patient from developing hyperkalemia. Desiree received a Great Catch certificate presented by Kristie Williams, VP, Heather Sadler, DNP, Senior Director of Nursing, and Jennifer Bailey, Quality Director.
I am so proud to be working with a group of creative, committed, dedicated professionals that support our leaders in myriad ways. The ILE team has created and launched multiple programs in the past couple of year to serve our administrative and physician leadership. In addition to the programs, we have supported over 50 individual leaders with one on one coaching, and 28 leaders this year with mentoring.
Kayla Frantz RN UD and her wonderful 9M ICU team had a great catch this week! Kayla reached out when her team spoke up because they thought there was a change with the OR Services CWS trackers/tags. They believed that these CWS trackers/tags were no longer disposable. This was true! This led to a larger investigation and communication to ensure these trackers/tags are kept in service and used for our future surgical patients. Way to go Kayla and your entire 9M ICU team for having the courage to speak up! Surgical Services appreciates all of you.
