Kayla Hopkins is a Healthcare Administrative Associate Lead for the Department of Orthopaedics serving our front desk at the Institue for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences. When she is not assisting our patients, she is working for Girl Scouts VA Skyline. This year, her division wanted to donate cookies to healthcare workers. Kayla nominated her peers at ION to be a recipient of 480 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. Kayla goes above and beyond and exhibits Carilion core values daily.  This is another example of the compassion she provides Carilion's healthcare workers.

A patient was having trouble getting medical transport to pick her up after her appointment and ended up waiting for quite a while for a ride. Susan Thomas not only helped the patient resolve her issue, but decided to brighten up her day by purchasing her a snack and drink to enjoy while she waited. We are so lucky to get to work with such a caring, compassionate person!

Sandra Arthur, CTL, goes above and beyond for our patients.  Late yesterday afternoon, a patient needed to come in for an acute visit.  His wife was very concerned for him.  Sandra was able to work him in to be seen but then was notified by the wife that they would actually not have a ride and would not be able to come.  Sandra, knowing this patient desperately needed to be seen, ended her shift a little early, clocked out and went and picked the patient and his wife up.  Sandra brought him in for his appointment then took them back home and got him sett

Big thank you to Alicia VanHoozier from Giles Rehab for coordinating dinner, Rehab staff/Giles County Courthouse staff for making meals, Carilion Giles Family Medicine for providing drinks, Carilion Giles Community Hospital Patient access for providing desserts, Carilion Police Officer Ben Farmer for delivering meals, Carilion Giles ER and MedSurg for support, and Carilion Police Officer Paul King for coordinating cupcake donation from a home economics class and hamburger donations. We were able to raise $5000 for a coworker and wife for medical expenses. 

Congratulations to Brenda Justice with Dietary on winning the CNRV Bee Award! Brenda is a shining example of Carilion's Values, and that reflects on the day to day care of the patients she takes care of on The Birthplace.

CRBH nursing staff was blown away by the kindness of one of dietary staff.  When trays were delivered on Mother's Day Sunday, cards were on the trays of all the female patients along with a small gift.  The dietary staff credits Angie Troxell for having individualized cards made and for obtaining the gifts! One patient was brought to tears by this kind gesture.  Her compassion and consideration also touched the hearts of the nurses.  Thanks, Angie for making the day special!

We just want to let Dr. Pines know how much she is appreciated. She is so good to the staff and the patients. It was so sweet how she brought flowers in for the female patients for Mother's day and some goodies for the staff. Thank you Dr. Pines for always listening, being so patient, and doing such a great job for your patients! From all of us on the medical care team!

We had a patient that had walked about 3 hours just to be seen at VelocityCare-Westlake. When the patient was about to leave, Emilee Shrewsbury volunteered to help the patient out by getting him transportation home. The compassion Emilee showed to him and shows daily to our patients is why we do what we do and is an example to us all. Thank you for going the extra mile to help him out!
