Mary B Pettus was acting as 1:1 sitter for an older adult experiencing delirium on top of suspected dementia. She immediately noticed that patient had increased agitation if not approached gently and advocated to all staff that entered his room. She was also hopeful that she could get patient into bedside chair and out of the bed. She truly exemplified the nonbehavioral treatments for delirium and wish all patients could have a care tech like her! 

Alicia Lee @ CNRV outpatient surgery turns fear into comfort one stuffed animal or fun toy at a time! She wants to make sure that all of her pediatric patients feel comfortable and safe before going to surgery, not to mention making the parents feel a bit more relaxed as their child rolls back to the OR. Amber Marie Steppe is a dedicated and hard-working member of Carilion Clinic. She has shown herself to be trustworthy, dependable, and extremely efficient at her job. She treats coworkers and clients with dignity and respect. She is truly an asset to Carilion Clinic!

The husband of one of our patients mentioned that every year he would get her a single rose for Valentines Day, but was unable to find one this year on his way to be with her.  Our nursing secretary, Rebekah Crawford, went out of her way to door dash single roses not only for him to give his wife, but for other patients on our unit that needed cheering up on Valentine's Day.   Rebekah always goes out of her way to give exceptional care, we are thankful for her! 

Our very own IPR Liaison Supervisor, Catie Davis, was recently honored with the Rotary Club of Blacksburg’s First Responder of the Year Award for her outstanding service with the Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad!

Anyone who knows Catie—or has even briefly met her—quickly sees her incredible passion for people. She dedicates so much of her time and energy to helping others, whether it’s supporting patients, serving members of the community, or uplifting her team.

Today, an elderly patient that came to Dermatology (Franklin Rd) for a procedure was unexpectedly left without a ride home. Pam Belcher, RN who is one of our CTLs, drove this patient home after her procedure was complete. Kaitlin Tyree, LPN, who assisted during her procedure, also helped Pam get this patient safely to and in the vehicle.

We had a patient that was in the nursing home coming for a CT scan. The nursing home was unable to come and pick up the contrast. Angie Shively took the contrast to the nursing home so the patient would not have to wait for 2 hours for the scan, and be able to not have to be rescheduled for their test!

Tashka Jackson works the front desk on the 4th floor of Riverside 3. She's always so friendly and generous to all, coworkers and customers alike. Recently, she went above and beyond by purchasing the cutest small stuffed animals for our Plastic and Reconstructive surgery pediatric patients. They've been a big hit with the children. When we informed her of this, what a huge impact her generosity has made, she took it upon herself to purchase more. We just want to give her the recognition she deserves. Thank you, Tashka!!

Creating a We Honor Veterans’ Wall has been a dream of Treasa Rigney’s for several years.  Recently, that dream became a reality. Treasa Rigney, NRV Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and Heather White, NRV Hospice Manager developed the design for the wall and worked with Carilion Marketing to ensure compliance with a project of this magnitude.  Robyn Angle, NRV Hospice Chaplain contacted families to obtain the photos then edited and mounted the photos based on the overall design.

I had a patient for a test this week that had fallen in the parking lot getting out of her car. She said Tim Shepherd saw her and helped her up! Thankfully, she wasn't hurt, but she was very grateful for the fast action of Tim since it was raining, the ground where she was laying was wet, and she wasn't able to get up on her own.
