Recently, Carilion Police Officer Greg Layne, went the extra mile to help a confused patient feel safe. She was at a Carilion facility and was being discharged but was confused and scared to go back to where she came from. Officer Layne helped make her feel safe and even went with her to where she was staying and did a safety check to assure her there was nothing to be scared of. Thank you Officer Layne for going above and beyond for our patients!

It’s unbelievable to think that it’s retirement time for this lady. Terri Henley has been the gold standard of Carilion excellence. Throughout her time with Carilion, she has exhibited grace, patience, knowledge, creativity, compassion, commitment and so on and so on. Anyone who has worked with Terri knows her wealth of Carilion knowledge and her desire for professional excellence. It will be a huge hole to fill. She is truly irreplaceable. Neurology, NeuroDiagnostics, and Neuropsychology family wish only the best to you, Terri, as you hit the trails enjoying new adventures.

Katrina Hurt on 11 west made a big impression on one of her patients. With her kind words it turned his whole day around in just a few minutes. Katrina is dedicated to making sure all her patients have a wonderful day !

Kim Ferguson goes above and beyond each day to support her staff and provide exceptional, compassionate care to her physical therapy patients.  Recently, a patient sent a letter commending Kim for her professionalism as well as her caring ways.  I was struck by the statement this patient made about Kim, "her caring ways also promote healing."  She went on to say Kim was a wonderful encourager and excellent communicator and gives Kim all the credit for her success in therapy.  After working with Kim for more than ten years, I can honestly say she is one of the most caring

Sincere thanks to the member of CNRV's Pharmacy for teaming up to support an organization that re-homes animals in our community!  The Pharmacy selected Smyth Animal Rescue, a local non-profit organization located in Marion, Virginia, for its April/May community service project. The Rescue provides resources related to shelter, adoption, transportation, vaccinations, food drives, education and much more.

Ann Greer at Riverside 3 Imaging Department went above and beyond for a CT patient. The patient was a late add on for the next morning early, the patient was not able to drive at night to pick up his Barium prep. Ann on her way home stopped by the patient's house with the Barium so he could drink it for the next mornings CT scan.

Thank you Ann, otherwise the patient would have been rescheduled for not drinking.

On Monday 6/6/22 our family suffered a lost of a loved one, during this time at FMH Dr. Olumide Ojeifo respected our loved ones request and was very compassionate with our family. He spoke with such empathy and stood by me while I said our final goodbyes to our loved one. He also ask questions and got to know our loved one in a sense. My husband was very appreciative of this and even requested that I make sure everyone knew how great this provider was. I know that his heart is in the right place and he is truly a great team member to the Carilion team.

Long time overdue, I want to take a moment and recognize Roy Mullins.

He is always smiling, very gracious. I have observed him on numerous occasions having lighthearted conversations with patients and he does a great job putting them at ease. In this stressful environment, his great attitude to work and life is much appreciated!

Sorin Scarlatescu, MD

On May 26, 2022, Justin Rockwell, MSW showed what it really means to be a social worker. He went above and beyond his job duties and showed tremendous compassion for a terminally ill incarcerated patient and his family. Justin spent hours searching for family members of the patient and then worked diligently and professionally with the Virginia Department of Corrections to advocate for the ability for the family members to visit with the patient. As a new hire at Carilion Clinic, Justin showed me, through his actions, what the Patient Experience is all about.
