The Carilion Clinic Keeley Healing Arts program brings the power of creativity to the healing process. Through this initiative, we have artists in residence dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of patients and families by integrating art into their care. Gabrielle King, our artist in residence at Carilion’s Center for Grief and Healing at Tanglewood, uses a mobile art cart filled with supplies to engage patients before their appointments.

A patient's relative fell out of her wheelchair while entering  CRCH near the Employee Health entrance. Krista Davidson, one of the EH nurses, ensured that an ambulance was called, stayed with her and assessed her until EMS arrived. She also ensured that the patient was made aware of the incident with their relative. I'm so proud to have Krista as an EH RN! 

Malika Saunders, CA on the Surgical Care Unit at CNRVMC, won the Bee Award for the third quarter! Malika had several wonderful things said about her. She was praised on her compassionate care, willingness to help, and that the family felt at ease with her knowing they would be getting the best care. Thank you, Malika, for your exceptional care and for demonstrating Carilion's values everyday!

Ethan Reynolds was talking to a patient and the patient expressed how hungry she was. After checking her dietary restrictions, he ordered her a pizza from dominos.

I would like to recognize and thank one of my HAA's, Shannon Colbert for being alert and knowing the signs and symptoms of a stroke. She witnessed a patient with a facial droop while checking in and was concerned. She immediately told the nurse her concerns and the patient was then rushed back to an exam room to see the physician. Patient was evaluated and EMS was called to transport the patient to Carilion ED, where he was diagnosed with a right superior pontine acute CVA. Thanks to the quick thinking by Shannon, the patient was treated and discharged home to his family. 

CRBH will lose a legend tomorrow.  After 17 years of service with Carilion (all in the UM department), Bob is standing down and will be retiring.  Bob has done tremendous work for our UM Department over the years. His genuine care for patients is second to none.  Bob has spent years fighting relentlessly for the patient.  Despite all of this, Bob is even a better person.

Annie, Operations Manager for 7sicu, arranged for a patient who has been in the hospital for 77 days to be able to go outside for the first time in his 77 days here and get some fresh air. This exemplifies compassion and is an act of kindness that the patient will never forget. 

Makayla Hedge just happen to be in the right place at the right time when one of our Internal medicine patient's fell in the hallway just outside the office after a syncopal episode. She stayed by his side reassuring the patient and asking the needed questions regarding past medical history and contact information till the rapid response team arrived. 

My youngest sister recently lost her battle with gall bladder cancer.  Throughout her ordeal I have needed multiple schedule accommodations in order to support her and our family.  She is in a better place now and I wanted to extend my gratitude to the entire retail pharmacy team for enabling me to spend quality time with her, especially at the end.  The memories I have will endure with me until my final days and would not have been made possible without the love and support from my "Carilion Family."  All of you have been great and I will not forget your kindness and co

 I would like to recognize William "Bill" Ward, Security at Tanglewood Mental Health, for assisting a patient with setting up her Heart Monitor Watch! She had asked several staff members who didn't know how to assist in setting it up and he did not hesitate to assist! Thank you and GREAT JOB!
