In August the 4 South PACU collect donations for the Moneta Elementary Bee's. We donated these items in September. Shout out to PACU for always helping others. :-) 

Kelly Chewning is our new clinic APS for the IR dept.  In our clinic, we rarely have pediatric patients; therefore, the setting can be somewhat scary from their perspective.  Today we had a 2-year-old patient and Kelly took it upon herself to run to a nearby store and purchase a couple of toys to make the patient feel more comfortable and to distract him during the assessment.  The strategy worked perfectly, and the patient received the assessment needed to be able to determine the proper care and treatment.  Great job, Kelly! 

I was notified that my Mother and Father were in the Emergency Department after a fall.  I was on my way to work when my Father notified me that he did not have a ride home.

While I could have taken them home, it would have interfered with my rounds during the morning.  On the other end of the phone with my Dad, I hear, "Tell him that Dana will give you a ride home."

Dana Alexander stayed after her shift to give my parents a ride back to their home in Salem.

I was amazed and thankful to see her compassion and committment to our mission.  

Hurricane Helene, as you all know, caused so much damage to SW Virginia, NC, Tennessee and many other areas. This hurricane also affected areas within our own footprint. Carilion Giles Community Hospital, Carilion Tazewell Community Hospital and Carilion New River Valley Hospital were all impacted by this disaster.  Our amazing staff at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital quickly jumped into action to help these areas impacted. Supplies were collected and transported, monetary donations were made and some members of our staff volunteered in person in areas that were hit hard.

Thank you for helping locate a bed and switching it out for our Patient..  We really appreciate it.

I want to shout out to Lindsey Davis RN here at CCR3. This morning one of her patients expressed to her that he felt as though his blood sugar was low and had dropped. Without a second thought she went into action and went into her own stash of beverages, got the patient ice, and took him something to help bring his sugar back up so he could continue with his appointment. She always put her patients first and has always been a team player. 

A few months ago, I received an email from Paula Louis - a Speech Language Pathologist with Rehab. Paula is a gardener and wanted to share her harvest with Carilion patients to brighten their day. She expressed how she wanted to grow, arrange, and distribute flowers to patients who don't often receive deliveries while in the hospital. She hoped they would benefit from something beautiful in their room during their stay.

I want to recognize Lindsay Barry for her outstanding work ethic. She exemplifies care and compassion towards her patients. She is always on top of things on the unit and is an excellent communicator, alerting me to issues or needs of the patient. I know it will be a good shift when we work together. It is always a pleasure working with Lindsay!

The Carilion Clinic Keeley Healing Arts program brings the power of creativity to the healing process. Through this initiative, we have artists in residence dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of patients and families by integrating art into their care. Gabrielle King, our artist in residence at Carilion’s Center for Grief and Healing at Tanglewood, uses a mobile art cart filled with supplies to engage patients before their appointments.
