During one of the recent snow events that impacted the CTCH community, a patient's vehicle was immovable due to the weather. Sgt. Kevin White cleared the area around the vehicle, cleaned the vehicle off and warmed it up so that the patient was able to be transported home. This is a testament to Sgt. White's unwavering dedication to the patients, staff and visitors at CTCH. As a result, Sgt. White received the Be Excellent Every or "BEE" award for his actions. Sgt. White and members of the CTCH team are pictured below after receiving his award. 

My husband was seen in the ER. He required endoscopy for removal. Due to our childcare needs I was not able to stay with him for the duration of the procedure. Sami provided nursing care for him during pre-op, OR and Recovery. She went above and beyond to take the time to contact me and provide regular updates of care. The extra time that she took to do this allowed me to be without kinds and also feel involved in his care decreasing the worry. I appreciate the support and compassion that she had had for not only patient care, but their families too. 

On Friday 2/14, an adolescent patient on the Inpatient Psych unit had become extremely agitated. The patient climbed on top of a table and refused to return to their room. Dr. Ferguson stepped in and calmly de-escalated the situation. The patient willingly returned to their room without the use of force or medication. 

Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital served a dinner of Zaxby's chicken sandwiches, Macaroni salad, Broccoli casserole and brownies and cookies yesterday evening at the Franklin County warming center for the homeless. 25 people were served. Thank you to our amazing team who participated and/or donated food, time and donations. Pictured serving are Mary Riddle, Joanna Mullins, Laura Stone and Mary Tershak.

Artie Grahn showed selfless compassion going above and beyond for a neighbor in the community.  His vehicle was being serviced when he received a call from an elderly neighbor to help move an oxygen tank.  Artie didn't tell them it would be an hour or two, rather he immediately called Uber and went directly to his neighbor to meet their need.  What a great reminder of kindness and compassion!  

  Carilion Police Officer Christopher Creech responded to a call about a disturbance with a new father at RMH.  He learned that the new father was a military veteran like he was, in addition to being a brand-new dad concerned about his child.  Chris took the time to establish a rapport with him and invited him for coffee in the cafeteria helping to reassure and deescalate his worries.  Protecting, serving and caring!  Nice job Chris!
