I would like to give a shout-out of gratitude to the St. Alban’s Recreational Therapy Staff for their thoughtful contribution of coffee, hot chocolate, donuts, and oatmeal cookies, which were greatly appreciated by patients and staff.  Thank you for all you do!

Carilion Security Officer Scott Dunn goes above and beyond to help a man in need!

Submitted by mdgilbert on

On 11/18/25 Carilion Security officer Scott Dunn observed a man in distress waiting outside Tanglewood Mall and Scott asked asked the man if he was ok. He said he had lost his cellphone and couldn't find it. He was waiting on a ride back to Raleigh Court, and he missed his ride because he couldn't call them due to losing his phone. Scott called an Uber to come pick up the man to take him to Raleigh court and paid for it out of his own pocket to help this man. Scott went above and beyond to help this man who didn't know what he was going to do.

Helping someone in need.

We were informed that our security officer, assigned to Tanglewood Carilion Mental Health, Scott Dunn went above and beyond when he noticed a man who was waiting near Chicken Salad Chick at the Tanglewood Mall. Scott asked the man if he was okay. The man responded that he had lost his cell phone and couldn't find it. He was waiting for a ride which he missed because he was unable to make a call to give his location. Scott called an Uber and paid for the ride out of his own pocket! Scott, you make the Police and Security Services department proud!

Outstanding Care and Compassion

Just wanted to give a big shout out and thank you to the awesome team Carilion has with our Midwives, L&D and NICU! I have been a part of the Carilion family for almost 5 years as a Registered Nurse, and have not had the pleasure to meet this awesome team! The compassionate care and expertise that was provided to my daughter-in-law, grandson and son is like no other! My son stated that this team was AMAZING during a very difficult birth!

Compassion in Action

During a Schwartz Center Rounds earlier this year, we shared a link and information on an opportunity to recognize compassionate caregivers. A Carilion staff member thought this would be an excellent opportunity to recognize the wonderful care of a compassionate nurse. This resulted in a nurse from an outside facility being nominated for The National Compassionate Caregivers of the Year award!
