Carilion PD Sergeant Mark Gilbert, his daughter Katie and the jolly old elf himself, Santa, teamed up to spread some Christmas cheer to the patients on the Peds Unit on Christmas Eve.  Sergeant Gilbert manages a non-profit organization in Martinsville called Cops, Kids and Clothes.  This year, he and his organization teamed up with Peds to make sure that the patients had something to celebrate the holiday with besides twinkling lights from the IV machines.  He and his elves passed out toys, gifts and even hand-made blankets spreading Christmas cheer.  The Peds sta

Kerryann has been working on Vascular ICU for a couple weeks now and she is by far one of the very best. Our unit, breakroom, nursing station, and patient rooms are always in top shape. She always has a smiling face. She greets our patients, their families, and other workers continuously. We cannot thank her enough for her hard work and contagious positive attitude she brings to our atmosphere. Thank you for making such a difficult position seem effortless. You are an asset to Carilion and we need many more just like you.

This week, the CGCH Patient Experience Team along with staff from all departments and community members spread some holiday cheer through song. Throughout the Med Surg Unit they went door to door singing Christmas carols for our patients. What a great way to share some holiday spirit and share our value of compassion!

Inpatient Rehabilitation speech language pathologist Madison Garton organized caroling after work for the patients and family members on our unit at Community Hospital.  Nurses, therapists and their families got together and sang carols for our patients...many of which will be with us through the holiday.  This was a truly amazing experience and a new tradition at Carilion Inpatient Rehabilitation.  Thanks to all that participated...the patients are all still talking about it today.

Chip Tomlin RN at Carilion rehab made two trips to the Rescue Mission for a patient to get belongings that the patient had left behind.

My husband had to have Pre-Surgical Testing done at Crystal Springs Cares yesterday 12/20/18, and I just wanted to give a shout out to Susan, RN (didn`t get last name). She was totally amazing. she was very caring, informative, and very friendly. She is compassionate, caring, and a great asset to that community. Thanks again Susan.

On a bust night in PICU, Samantha Bowers RT stepped up and took the pediatric floor so I could focus on my patients. She showed great compassion and hard work. I would have not been able to make it through the night without her helping hand!

I have an amazing group of people that I work with!  They showed so much compassion for me when they all went in together and got me a giftcard to Walmart so that I could use it to ensure my girls have a memorable Christmas!  They surprised me with it at our department Christmas celebration.  My amazing coworkers saw a need and took it upon themselves to go out of their way to help me!  I am honored to work with such amazing people!

Lydia Geary, Clinical Associate on 7 East was caught in the act of extreme kindness and compassion.    One of Lydia’s co-workers walked into a patient’s room to find Lydia seated and mending a patients torn clothing with needle and thread while talking with the patient.  Thank you Lydia for going the extra mile for our patients and showing such genuine compassion.  You are a great role model for us all.
