Sharon Burkholder, PACU charge nurse was planning the night with her staff of 3 total nurses. One of the nurses had mentioned symptoms she had been experiencing over the past couple of days and spoke of "just being exhausted". As we all know, many nurses experience exhaustion, but Sharon continued to ask probing questions, as a former Cardiac ICU Nurse Sharon was able to recognize this change in the coworkers condition as a possible cardiac issue.

An out of state patient needed to be transported to the hospital but had her 2 beautiful dogs traveling with her. Ross offered to keep her dogs for the night so she could get the care she needed and not have to worry about them. Thank you for going above and beyond and caring, not only for your patients, but for their pups too!

As a new employee it is great to have such a hands on and great training staff to really make you understand the training for when you get to your department!  Great job!!  Thanks for being so compassionate about the work you do to train all the new employees like me!

An elderly couple traveling ended up in the emergency room at CNRV, the wife had to be transferred emergently to Roanoke, leaving the husband stranded.  Jana Little PA took it upon herself to transport the husband to Roanoke to ensure that he was able to be with her!   Thank you Jana!  The staff caring for this patient, family and her husband appreciate you!

A BIG shout out to Brittney Mayhew in the dining services. I had a patient on 9SPCU in a tremendous amount of pain and unable to find "good food" like her husband makes her at home. Having just got out of surgery yesterday, she was famished!...but just couldn't bear to eat "bland hospital food". After a few bites of breakfast and not touching her lunch, Brittney came in personally and talked with the patient to find out some of her favorites so she could provide her with a scrumptious dinner.

I went to visit a patient at Roanoke Memorial, and while I was there, a gentleman named, Anthony, came in to the clean the room. I didn't get his last name, but he was on the 8th floor. He was super friendly with the patient and seemed to really enjoy what he did. The room was sparkling clean when he left, and the patient had lit up when he came into the room. 

Thank you Anthony for making that patient's day! 

A nonverbal autistic patient came into the ER 10/12/2019. The patient was upset and Brook Brown, RN was able to make a toy rattle by taping 2 plastic cups together with medicine vial tops in the middle, which very much calmed this patient down! What made this even more impressive was that this wasn't even Brook's patient!
