Exceptional Patient-Centered Care on 6 OPS CST

Submitted by edwilhelm on

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone on 6 OPS CST, especially Tana White and Emilie Rothgeb, for the exceptional care they provided to my father-in-law. While his procedure was routine from a clinical standpoint, it was understandably stressful for him. Their ability to recognize his anxiety and take the time to explain each step in a clear, compassionate manner made a meaningful difference. Their willingness to engage him—and my family—with conversation and reassurance helped create a calm and supportive environment.

"Snow Angels"

NP LeRena Barrett and RT Diana Rathmann braved the cold and snow to shovel paths to employees' cars at Christiansburg Velocity Care after this recent weather event.  They even cleaned the snow off everyone's cars after working a 12 hour shift.   Thank you for your acts of kindness, compassion, and commitment which demonstrate the core values of Carilion Clinic!  I'm so proud of our team!  #TEAMVC!

CFMH's Debbie Bowman drove to Martinsville to deliver a patients wallet she left behind

Submitted by Stephanie Hodges, BSN, RN, CEN, Unit Director of the CFMH's ED

We had a young mother in our department from Martinsville who left her wallet behind when she was discharged. When the wallet was found, Debbie Bowman, RN, ED, reached out to the patient but she was already home in Martinsville and due to personal challenges was not able to return to pick it up at that time. So Debbie took the patients wallet to her so she didn't have to worry about where it was or coming back to Rocky Mount to pick it up!

Adult Inpatient Mental Health CTL Recognition

Submitted by bjlawson on

I wanted to give recognition to Austin Hall, RN who was coming off working night shift on Monday, 1/26/2026 after the winter storm came through that weekend. Instead of heading home, he opted to aid in picking up myself and another coworker and taking us to work when we had gotten stuck trying to get out. Myself and a coworker were forced to consider calling out because our vehicles could not trudge through the neighborhood streets, but Austin offered to pick us up as an alternative.

CRMH Maintenance to the Rescue

I wanted to profoundly thank both of the lovely gentlemen who work with Maintenance at CRMH for helping me get my car out of the snow. I worked over the weekend and had to leave my car there for the weekend. When I got to RMH yesterday it was literally stuck in the snow that had turned to ice, and there was nothing I could do on my own! Both of them worked together to help try to push my vehicle from off of the ice block, but it would not budge! They strategized & shoveled more of the ice from in front of the car and like magic I was able to get out.

❄️Same Day Surgery Team Going Above & Beyond❄️

A huge shout‑out to Pam Williams, Abby Williams, and Melissa Phipps from Same Day Surgery for their extraordinary dedication this weekend!

With the incoming storm, these three made the decision to stay in a local hotel to ensure they could safely make it into work on Monday. Their commitment alone deserves recognition — but the story gets even better.

When Compassion Leaves Tracks

Hospice weekend on call RN Caroline Sizemore consistently demonstrates dedication to our patients, ensuring their needs are always met.  This weekend during a winter storm, on call staff was unable to reach a patient’s spouse by phone to check on our patient’s condition and comfort level.    This patient is nearing end of life and is being cared for by her elderly husband . Due to snow and ice, Caroline was unable to park near the home.
