Brittney Dao RN with the Birthplace was selected as the Daisy Award winner for the months of March and April. She was nominated by three of her patients she cared for during those months. Brittney shows compassion and commitment to each of her patients. Thank you Brittney for all you do! Here's what her patients had to say about her:

Patient #1 Brittney was there for me thru the entire labor. I really liked how caring she was. 

Carla Peery went above and beyond to assist a dermatology MOHS patient who was leaving after 5 pm from our office and the shuttle service had already gone for the day. This very nice man would have had to walk alone using his cane, to the parking garage. Carla was able to transport him to his car using her own vehicle. She made certain he was able to get into his car safely and that he had all of his belongings with him. She also gave a ride to Kim and myself, taking each of us to our cars (on different floors) just because we were all going the same direction.

I want to say Thank you to Doris Heck and Kristy Mcgrady for helping us out during this difficult time and being there for us to vent during this crazy time and keeping everyone calm. I know things are still not back to normal but you all will get us through this and we appreciate everything you do for us.

I want to thank and give extra kuddos to Samantha in the Roanoke Carilion Gift shop for going the extra mile and helping me place and put together the most adorable arrangement for a child I knew in the PEDI area. I'm at Carilion NRV so we did this all on the phone and she even sent me a picture of it. It was so neat and the patient loved it! Thank you Samantha for your excellent service, patience and going above and beyond fixing the arrangement.

I wanted to take a minute to give a shout out to 8 Mountain PCU and ICU. These two units are the designated COVID units for RMH. I am proud to be part of an amazing team! The staff on these two units have compassion for what they do every day! The times of nursing and taking care of these patients on our floors look a little different these days from what we wear, how we have to approach our patients, and even missing the human touch that some of our patients need.

Every morning, as employees come to work, Officer Easter greets everyone with a buoyant and cheerful "Hello"!! I look forward to seeing her in the morning as she is always positive and upbeat....helping to start our days with a smile and usually a laugh or two.

Thank you Officer Easter for maintaining your resilient cheerfulness and uplifting attitude - giving your co-workers the gift of a smile and kindness!!!

The medical-surgical floor at CSJH had a very challenging discharge this week/weekend.  Much time and effort was put into ensuring this patient had a a safe disposition by case management, nursing and Dr.

I would like to recognize 4 of our night shift nurses for bringing happiness to one of our elderly patients.  Sam Velena, Traci Watson, Sandy Rowe and Tina Shepherd worked night shift of Mother's Day.  One of our frequent patients told them she had not received a phone call to wish her a Happy Mother's Day or a Happy Birthday for her 93rd Birthday this month.  She held back tears as she told me the four nurses brought her a cupcake and sang happy birthday to her.  They took time out of their busy shift to show this patient some care and kindness.

With several being furloughed and doing “more with less” Franklin Road Dermatology has had some very busy days.  Our HAAs, Jennie Wood, Scarlet Fitzgerald and Susan Long expressed their appreciation to us as nurses with a chalk art greeting in the driveway saying- “We love our nurses.” They also treated us to a taco lunch that had our silverware wrapped with place cards saying, “taco’bout nacho average nurses... muchos gracias for all you do.”  We are thankful for our hard working front desk staff. You are the best!

I wanted to verbalize how wonderful the Family Liason process has been with the family face time that has been used recently. This has provided comfort for the patients and families. What a wonderful resource this addition has been during the "no visit" time period. I feel it should be continued as a 'new normal' for all of our patients!
