The Riverside 3 Building had a Gingerbread house presentation in the Lobby.  

Various Departments were asked to Participate and Cathy Martin, LPN volunteered to head up the project and we as donate the needed supplies. She spent a lot of time and work and with some help from a few coworkers made a great gingerbread house to represent the department well. 

Joyce Payne is always an amazing help to our Emergency Department.  Recently she helped out with admitted patients by cleaning rooms outside of her assigned area.  She cleaned 5 inpatient rooms!.  We are so grateful and so were our patients!  She exemplifies what it means to collaborate between departments. 

The Carilion Clinic Inpatient Rehabilitation Liaisons provided a thank you hot chocolate bar to the CRMH acute therapy team and SW team to express their thanks and gratitude for collaboration and partnership. 

Thanks to Christina Johnston, RN, of the ED Obs/CDU team, for helping me navigate and coordinate local follow-up for a new-to-Roanoke IR outpatient in the middle of your busy day! I appreciate your willingness to help ensure all of our patients receive the care they need. I'm certain that the patient appreciates your help!

HUGE SHOUT OUT to Sandy Sayre Sr. DON, Bennie Kowalski Unit Director and the RMH 6S PACUs AMAZING staff for helping the 4S PACU with throughput on November 22nd to decrease OR hold times. The 4S PACU is deeply appreciative of each of you! The day was fast and furious but together we all made happen for the greater good! Shout out to Becca Summey RN CTL of the 4S PACU for helping to make sure every patient had a bay to recover in! Great job. Kudos to great TEAMWORK and Collaboration! 😊

CGCH participated in a Great Gratitude Challenge where departments created turkeys showing what they are thankful for. Teams got creative and used a variety of items to design their turkeys and display the many things they are thankful for this holiday season.

Jamie Lint has been a member of the SOFT (Support Organization for Trisomy) for about 20 years. SOFT inspires hope and respects all on their Trisomy journey. SOFT empowers families, celebrates hope, values research, builds community, and values respect. SOFT started in 1979 in Salt Lake City, Utah through the magical meeting of two young mothers, both with 2-year-old daughters born with trisomy 18. The experience was so profound, Kris Holladay and Pam Watson made a promise to create a way for other families to find one another and share their stories and offer support.

A patient presented to the ED at CFMH with stroke symptoms.  The ED & Radiology teams followed the newly implemented Stroke Alert process for our facility which resulted in quick CT scans, test results and Teleneurology consults for this patient.  The patient was then flown to IR at RMH within 31 minutes of receiving the positive test results.  This patient walked out of RMH 4 days later with almost complete resolution of their symptoms! This case also required strong collaboration with the Transfer Center, Lifeguard 10 staff and the IR/Neurology teams at RMH.

CRMH recently received a stroke alert on a 13-year-old patient. Although stroke is less common in children than in adults, the long-term morbidity and societal impact of stroke in children exceeds that in adults. Our stroke protocol constitutes important steps in ensuring that patients are diagnosed in a time frame that enables acute treatment.
