A group of staff and leaders from across our organization met to participate in a tabletop exercise around measles. Thanks to the expertise of Joe Coyle, Lori Griffith and Mai Jatta as well as leaders from the participating groups for putting together a great exercise. Also, thanks to the staff that participated and helped Carilion Clinic test our processes and prepare for incidents that may occur in our community.

The third month of the ICU Strong Campaign saw some stiff competition this go-around!  Winners for the month of September were:

On October 2nd, healthcare workers from Carilion Clinic and LewisGale Regional Health System played in their Annual Softball Charity game to benifit the American Heart Association. The game raised $4,338. LewisGale won the game by 1 run. The final score was LewisGale 10 and Carilion Clinic 9. Always next year for the big Carilion Win! Thank you to Kristy Mays-Myers, 6W CCDU OM for coaching our team. 

Yesterday marked an exciting milestone as we officially opened our 7S Neuro PCU, welcoming our very first patient and achieving a target census of 10 patients by the end of the day! This achievement is the result of an incredible collaborative effort across many teams, and we extend a big thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make this possible. We are excited to help increase access to care for our Neuro patient population!

i was to give a huge WOW to our Dept. Manager aka Boss Lady, Heather Bramblett RN, She came down to give us a hand putting patients on bedpans and doing the basic ADL's. She is a superior person and boss.

Join the fun and watch our annual charity softball game!

Carilion employees will be playing against Lewis Gale employees in our annual charity softball game at Salem Memorial Ballpark (Salem Red Sox Field) on Thursday, October 2nd. Proceeds from the game will benefit the American Heart Association.

Join us for raffles, live music, and fun! The game will begin at 6:30pm, gates open at 5. Cost is $5 cash at the gate.

Dr. Krakauer, Dr. Erdel and Dr. Oliver and the Palliative Clinic incorporated a special pet therapy visitor into the day which was a great boost for staff and patients! 

Franklin the Frog, Angela Moore Infection Preventionist, and Stephanie Hodges ED Unit Director visited Christian Heritage preschool to talk about germs and how important it is to wash your hands.

Thank you to the Endoscopy team for their incredible time and dedication in the presentation of the single-stage EDGE-ERCP that was transmitted live to a conference in India. Roanoke and our staff were well represented on an international stage. Their hard work and meticulous planning truly paid off.  Job well done!!!

Chief Ed Watkins and Philip Prescott, Sr Director of Environment of Care and Safety, provided a presentation at the VHHA Healthcare Safety and Security Forum on Tuesday, September 23rd. Their presentation included information on our Workplace Safety Initiatives that were recently put in place to include our Weapons Detection Screening, Visitor Management and other work. 

The audience included colleagues from across the state and many lessons were shared and learned. 

Their message was clear, "Safety is a shared responsibility".
