Each summer, as new interns arrive for orientation, EPIC training, and the whirlwind of onboarding, the Department of Emergency Medicine adds another milestone to the experience: a three-day Ultrasound Bootcamp designed to build foundational point-of-care ultrasound skills before residents begin caring for patients.

Our Ronald McDonald tab top collection program continues to grow! Carilion Giles Community Hospital has collected 67 pounds of can tabs for recycling. These tabs will be sent to the Ronald McDonald House of Southwest Virginia, located in Roanoke. The house will recycle the tabs to raise funds to assist with operational expenses. The team has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the Get with the Guidelines®–Stroke GOLD PLUS award, along with Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite, Advanced Therapy, and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll recognition.

Congratulations to Dr. Michelle Rockwell, Associate Professor, Family & Community Medicine, on her acceptance to Academy Health's Inaugural Implementation Science Fellowship program. This $300,000 award will support innovative research aimed at improving osteoporosis care in primary care settings.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tammy Foster, Michelle Gearheart, and Danielle Henderson for their outstanding work over the past several months supporting the transition of the Roanoke Breast Center.

This was a significant undertaking that required coordination across many areas, including space renovations, medical equipment relocation and replacement, furniture moves, technology transitions, and helping staff adjust smoothly to their new environment. Their dedication, collaboration, and attention to detail were instrumental in bringing this project to life.
