WOW shout out to the maintenance team at CNRVMC

Submitted by arsummers on

I just wanted to give a shout out to Garrett Hafley (supervisor) and the maintenance team for doing an exceptional job with snow removal in the parking lots and sidewalks.  I arrive early (before 7 am.) and the sidewalks are always clear and well-treated for ice as well as the parking lots. It makes it easier to come into work not having to worry about my own mobility or patient's mobilities in the parking lot. We are THANKFUL for all you do!

Honoring 40 years of Service-Sharon "Sam" McKinney

Submitted by jmbean on

Forty years is more than a number.
It’s a lifetime of moments - steady hands, calm voices, hard decisions, quiet victories, and compassion shown when it mattered most.

Today, we celebrated Sharon "Sam" McKinney, who marks 40 years of service with Carilion and will retire in January 2026, closing an extraordinary chapter that began with a dream of working in the Emergency Department and became a calling lived out every single day.

Mary Smith saved the day !

I would like to recognize Mary Smith.

She is a superb nurse and a wonderful Human being.

She realized that a patient was deteriorating  fast with post op ileus and acted quickly , bolused fluids, inserted an NG in no time, hooked suction- thus preventing large volume aspiration and a certain catastrophe.

She did everything efficiently, professionally and with a smile.

We need to clone Mary!

I don't think we recognize Mary often enough for her invaluable help at beside!

A True Example of Going the Extra Mile

A huge shout-out to Patricia Creasey for her incredible dedication and commitment to our team! She has gone above and beyond by traveling to Tazewell and Giles to teach Phlebotomy classes to a large group of employees preparing for the new clinic opening in early 2026. Her commitment to traveling to Tazewell and Giles made it possible for staff to complete their training locally, eliminating the need for a significant number of employees to travel to Roanoke. Thank you for your flexibility, passion for teaching, and unwavering support of our mission.

Huge appreciation to our Carilion Direct Contact Center team for maintaining seamless operations throughout this week’s winter weather event. Despite the challenges, the team collectively handled more than 18,000 calls on Monday and Tuesday, ensuring our patients and community continued to receive the support they needed. A special shout-out to Sybil Philpott, who arrived at 4:30 a.m. to stay ahead of the weather and keep our morning shift fully staffed. Thank you all for your unwavering dedication, resilience, and commitment to exceptional service!

Huge thank you to all the teams and individuals who helped us celebrate Antibiotic Awareness Week 2025! Your commitment to protecting our antimicrobials truly makes a difference for our whole community. We’re grateful for the chance to celebrate alongside so many of our clinics and providers, and to connect with our broader community throughout the week. The Wells Fargo Tower even lit up purple all week to mark the occasion!
