Recognizing Initiative and Excellence: Cheryl Goguen Strengthens Oncology Navigation

Cheryl Goguen, a Patient Service Coordinator in the Oncology Navigation Department, has recently showcased outstanding initiative and commitment to her team. Recognizing a gap in clinical knowledge within a non-clinical role, Cheryl took the lead to create an incredibly practical and user-friendly handbook. This handbook is designed to support new PSCs during their orientation and throughout their learning journey. It covers essential topics such as basic anatomy, overviews of common cancers, and a glossary of oncology terms.

Congratulations to Lori Price, BSN, RN, TCRN from the CNRV Dialysis Unit for having her article entitled: An Innovative Online Approach to Certification Success published in the January/February edition of the Journal of Emergency Nursing! APP Council Event Highlights

The APP Council of Carilion & Dr. Seupaul hosted an APP Appreciation Event to highlight the excellent care provided by our APPs in our community.  The night included insight shared from our speakers: Dr. Tony Seupaul, Michelle Franklin, & Dr. Tracey Criss as well as recognizing council members for their commitment and leadership. Carilion Clinic employs approximately 700 APPs including: PAs, NPs, Clinical Psychologists, CRNAs, Certified Nurse Midwives, Audiologists, & Clinical Nurse Specialists.

During a medication verification with a co-worker, Desiree identified a critical dose miscalculation before the medication reached the patient. Because of her sharp attention to detail—and her willingness to pause, question, and verify—a potential medication error was completely averted.
