Volunteers Show Their Support

Submitted by slflowers on

Carilion volunteers are on hiatus because of the coronavirus pandemic, but their presence is very much felt across CMC. To show their support for those on the front lines, volunteers launched a card-writing campaign to say "Thank you" to staff. Volunteers sent cards to employees in departments where they volunteer and where they don't. "Thank you for 'keeping the home fires burning,'" Front Desk volunteer Carol Foutz wrote. A huge thank you to Anthony Blevins and Monty Wright! We had a patient's phone get mixed up in her dirty linen. Anthony and Monty worked quickly and diligently to find her phone before it got sent to the laundry facility. Our patient's phone is so important, now more than ever, to stay connected with friends and family during their stay with us. Thank you SO much for your hard work. You are seen and appreciated.

I've been confined to my office since the travel ban and have relied on the team at City View for daily quick service lunches and the occasional breakfast. I have consistently been impressed with the quality of food and speed of service! Thank you all for your commitment! I am grateful for you everyday!

The work on clinical projects guiding our response to COVID-19 is phenomenal. Many thanks to the members of the CAPS team (Process Improvement, Quality Facilitators and Human Factors)! They’re ensuring everything from testing algorithms to PPE to our employee hotline operate properly -- planning and proposing and then helping carry out countless tasks with clinicians in Infection Prevention and Control.

The Epic Training Team Steps Up

The folks that make up the Epic Training Team have been amazing during this stressful time.  They have repeatedly stepped in to help by pivoting toward virtual training sessions, creating education for dozens of new processes, and working within the boundaries of daily policy changes.  They are providing 24/7 support to our clinicians on the front lines and those stepping in to back fill into unfamiliar work spaces.  They have sacrificed valuable family time to meet the needs of our clinicians and patients, and have even placed themselves in support roles in potential contact
