Congratulations to Dena L. Leslie Lehman, Imaging Administrative Assistant, is adept at the fine art of scheduling Radiologists.  Her skill is seldom recognized but truly attributes to patient care by ensuring Radiologists are placed within our facilites appropriately and interpreting all types of imaging either generally or specifically.  Radiology schedules can change daily, and on occassion multiple times within a day.  Leslie Lehman tracks these changes and informs Technologists, Imaging Staff, and Radiologists of the changes.  Her contribution to timely patient care is well deserving of a gre

Sunday morning I called Velocity Care in Roanoke on Electric road with a question about scheduling a patient for a secondary test.  Laura Joseph answered the phone with a kind cheerful voice.  At first she wasn't able to help me but found out how she could.  My problem was solved!  A big WOW for Laura!   Her exemplary diligence helped me but most importantly helped the patient!

The Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center at University of Virginia announced this week that it will honor President and CEO Nancy Howell Agee as one of the 2020 winners of the University’s Distinguished Alumnae Award, which recognizes alumnae who have used their talents as a force for positive change. Nancy earned her B.S.N. from the School of Nursing in 1979, and is among the 13 percent of U.S.

Robert Trestman, M.D., Ph.D., chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Carilion Clinic, was selected to receive the 2020 NAMI Exemplary Psychiatrist Award. NAMI stands for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Dr. Trestman was nominated by Adrienne Kennedy, president of the NAMI board of directors. This year's awards were given to psychiatrists noteworthy for going the extra mile and who have made substantial contributions to NAMI Affiliate, NAMI State Organization or national NAMI activities.

Had a rowdy patient the other night, yelling, throwing things, abusive to staff. Called our night Security guard, Lonnie, to come deal with  the situation.  He has so much patience and compassion  and quiet calmness when working with people, and  even tho this particular episode did not end well ( or begin well for that matter), Lonnie stayed right with us and even stepped between me and the patient at one time when the situation escalated  to physical violence .

I want to give a HUGE Shout Out to Eric Perkins in Internal Medicine Riverside.  Eric went over and beyond assisting a patient with a possible Medicare fraud.  Thank you for helping our patient Eric. 

Kristie Brown, RN in the Infusion Center at CNRV is the DAISY award winner for the month of April. Thank you, Kristie, for making sure our patients are taken care of and understand the process which makes them feel more relaxed. Here is why she was nominated.

Kristie distinguished herself in her duties and responsibilities in a superior manner. She was both professional and personal during my visit that can’t be matched by any other RN’s that I have witnessed and observed during my time under care.

May 5th was World Hand Hygiene Day. You may not realize this, but our hand hygiene compliance numbers are collected by a dedicated army of people throughout the hospital who collect this data in addition to doing their usual jobs. While we ask that each department and nursing unit submit at least 40 observations per month, it is a challenge and often we fall short of the target.
