I would just like to say how grateful I am to be surrounded by such a great team of Certified Medical Assistants at Internal Medicine Riverside 3! They run their tales off rooming patients, assisting providers and nurses alike, and in general being awesome. They really are the glue that holds our practice together! This week we were able to celebrate all of their work that they do that goes unrecognized. It's a great feeling to be surrounded by such a great group of people who really know how to work as a team.

Please take a moment and recognize the huge contributions our Certified Medical Assistants make the Ambulatory Care offices throughout Carilion. CMAs work in almost all of the Ambulatory practices in our system - using their skills to provide the best of care and customer focused office visits to the patients we serve. Often mistaken for "nurses", CMAs work directly with physicians and use their skills and passion for patient care to facilitate many aspects of an office visit - from rooming to procedures to maintaining office records. I am personally very proud of our Carilion CMAs!

October is Medical Ultrasound Awareness month and I want to take a moment to recognize, and highlight, our wonderful Echo and Vascular sonographers!

This amazing group of people perform ultrasounds for patients of all ages, and in all settings, from the ED to the NICU and every floor in-between!  Their work often goes unnoticed but is especially critical during the pandemic as it assists with the diagnosis of cardiovascular-related COVID complications.

As part of National Pharmacy Week, on Tuesday, October 20 we specifically recognize our pharmacy technicians.  Did you know Carilion Clinic’s inpatient pharmacies dispenses more than 500,000 medication doses per month, including approximately 1,500 intravenous medications per day?

October 18-24, 2020 is National Pharmacy Week, an annual observance that acknowledges the invaluable contributions that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians make to patient care in hospitals, ambulatory care clinics, retail pharmacies, and other healthcare settings.  This week we recognize our pharmacy team that works hard to ensure that medication use is optimal, safe, and effective for all our patients. 

Dana Hodges, RN works as a Clinical Administrator at CNRVMC. She was nominated for the Daisy award for providing compassion and commitment towards a patient in a couple difficult situations. Thank you Dana! Here is what the patient had to say:

We have come to the end of our FY and while there is room for improvement, we want to celebrate our successes at all levels. The last half of the FY has been harrowing for all of us and as we prepare for what may be our new norm, you need to be celebrated, you deserve to be celebrated! Safety needs to be entrenched in our culture and we should remember the Nursing principle of Non maleficence; DO NO HARM!
