Jackson May has been an enormous help and great asset to our VelocityCare family. The Admin team has been hearing daily of how much Jackson has stepped up.

Multiple times a week, he has stayed over several hours past his shift to help his co-workers due to volumes. He has been leaving our clinics around midnight, 1AM and even 2AM. Your VC family appreciates all your hard work!

Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital has been awarded the Stroke Quality Achievement Award for their commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.  Great job to all staff that work on a daily basis to improve outcomes for our stroke patients!

Jill Lucas Drakeford, Community Health Educator and Carilion Children's Safe Kids Southwest Virginia Coordinator, recently received the Regional EMS Award for Outstanding Contribution to EMS for Children from the Western Virginia EMS Council. This honor is a testament to Jill's dedication to protecting the health and safety of our region’s children. She has made it her mission to educate parents, caregivers and children throughout Southwest Virginia on injury prevention.

Today Pam spotted a patient on our schedule that will be coming in next week whose last name was hyphenated and entered incorrectly in Epic. This patient had multiple appointments in the past within Carilion Clinic and just today thanks to her great attention to detail, caught that error and was able to get that changed in our system right away! We all know how significant it is to have the correct patient information in Epic, big kudos to Pam for catching this! Since my time here, Pam has always shown excellent patient care.

If you attended the August 7th “Frontline Workers Appreciation Night” at the Salem Red Sox game, you would have seen Carilion CMA Thanh Nguyen (Clinic 12 CCMOB Internal Med) on the big screen at the bottom of the first inning.

Thanh was honored as the “Frontline Worker of the Month” for her efforts during the vaccine clinics at the Berglund last Spring. Great work and Congratulations Thanh!

Today is GME Professionals Day!  Today we celebrate all the important contributions made by the GME Professionals who staff our residency and fellowship programs as well as our central GME office. The effective leadership and administration of graduate medical education is highly dependent on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of our entire GME team. Carilion has a dedicated group who work tirelessly to support our designated institutional official, program directors, faculty members, fellows, residents, and medical students. Thank you all for everything you do!

Digital Health Director, Melinda Schriver, MHA, MBA, has been named among Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Innovators of 2021 for her work in digital health transformation. This prestigious recognition acknowledges and honors individuals who introduce ideas that engage consumers in new ways, lower health care costs and take unique approaches to managing population health.

Kudos to night shift, ACS, who worked together and filled in multiple roles when 2 team members were out, with no secretary/monitor tech. Everyone jumped in, worked together and ensured all the patients were safe, monitors were watched, and performed at 200% with a smile!

Monica Coles DNP, RN-BC, ACNS-BC, CDP, Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, has completed CIRCAA, a comprehensive interprofessional training program designed to improve knowledge, skills, and practice in the care of older adults. Her participation and professional perspective were valuable additions to another successful program year.
