Kaycie Suttle’s job as a medical staff specialist at CGCH can be tough, but it was her role as a mother that truly showed her resilience.

When her daughter, Penelope, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, her family’s life changed in ways they could never have expected such as frequent medical appointments, travel and other expenses that weren’t covered by insurance.

The past few days have brought heartbreaking news about our colleagues, families and friends who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene.

In the spring we expanded our system's team of certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), and we have been growing ever since!

There’s a new employee at Carilion Children’s Tanglewood Center. 

Wali, an official Saint Francis Facility Dog, has joined the team and will help with therapy sessions.

Wali, a black lab, is an official Carilion Clinic employee, complete with a badge, and will work full-time. Tara Mitchell, Ph.D., is a Licensed Pediatric Clinical Psychologist and is Wali’s handler. Wali was raised and trained for more than two years by Saint Francis Service Dogs, a Roanoke non-profit organization. He was expertly matched with Carilion Children’s and was placed at no cost. Dr.
