Thank you to all our interns on Virginia Intern Day!  We had 100 high school and college summer interns for 2025!   The interns were placed in both clinical and non-clinical areas within Carilion Clinic!    Throughout the summer, we have offered various social and professional development opportunities for each of them (see some snapshots below of some of our events!)

I want to recognize the work that Joan Williams, Certified Pharmacy Tech, (CPhT) is doing with Medication History review in the ED at Carilion Giles Community Hospital.

Congratulations to Lauren Tressler and Matt Yost for passing their Sports Clinical Specialist Certification!  

Dr. Lu Ojeifo from our Emergency Medicine team has been accepted into the Educators in Health Professions Program at Harvard Medical School (The Harvard Macy Institute). With support from a Carilion RAP Grant, the Emergency Medicine department, the Center for Simulation Research and Patient Safety, the VTC School of Medicine, and The Institute for Creativity Arts and Technology and College of Engineering at Virginia Tech, Dr Ojeifo has led a multi-disciplinary, Multi-organizational team of researchers on the use of mobile, immersive simulation in healthcare.

When Anna recognized changes in her patient's demeanor, she quickly stepped in and advocated for some additional testing that demonstrated the need for additional interventions for her patient. Anna's commitment, curiosity, and courage positively impacted the outcome for her patient. Thank you, Anna for the care you give our patients!

We want to give a giant bear hug in appreciation to everyone who helped bring the Teddy Bear Clinic to life at Carilion. Hosted by the incredible child life team, this event gave children in our community a chance to learn about medical experiences in a fun, hands-on, and non-threatening way through the eyes of their favorite stuffed friends.

Jen was nominated by her peers and was described as an embodiment of the spirit of fostering creativity and innovation by introducing fresh ideas and approaches to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. She encourages collaboration among team members, creating an open environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and innovative solutions can flourish.

Katelin Walls, RN, and Suzanne Beels, CNS, presented their nursing research poster at the Preventive Cardiovascular Nursing Association (PCNA) Annual Cardiovascular Symposium. Their research project is "Combing Stress First Aid and the 4 A's Model to Improve Resiliency". We are very proud of them!

Congratulations to Kelly Carr, LPTA our Early Mobility and Safe Patient Handling Manager for winning the Gallagher/Top Novice Award for her poster at the ASPHP National Conference March 9th in Atlanta, GA!  Kelly's poster on the impact of our Mobility Tech roles have had on length of stay and the ability for our patients to discharge home received lots of positive feedback and questions from other organizations!
