During a recent night when temperatures dropped into the single digits, Amber Clary, one of our Velocity Care clinicians, went above and beyond for a patient in need. Concerned about the patient’s ability to find safe shelter in the extreme cold, Amber took immediate action to ensure they had a warm place to stay for the night and covered a hotel room.

This act of kindness reflects the very best of who we are, meeting patients where they are, advocating for their safety, and caring for the whole person, not just the medical complaint.

We all have heard of the saying "Be the change you wish to see in the world" and for Katie Rogers she is the change. It became a part of my weekly morning routine as I'd pass by the pediatric PT dept at NRV to see her with some of our littlest patients. I noticed patients moving faster and slowly getting stronger through her guidance and encouragement. It is very apparent that for Katie, this is her life's passion and we are lucky to have her!

On a particularly cold day, Pam Flinchum noticed that a patient was wearing only a thin jacket. Without hesitation or expectation of recognition, she went out of her way to purchase a warm sweater for the patient at the gift shop.

She took the time to locate the patient and personally deliver the sweater to the infusion center where the patient was receiving treatment. This thoughtful act was not part of her assigned duties, yet she made it a priority because she genuinely cared about the patient’s comfort and well-being.

CNRV Medical Care Unit decorated their Christmas tree with shoe ornaments and  collected shoes to donate to those in need. The spirit of Christmas is found in the steps we take for others. One pair of shoes, one life touched.

Cole Pitchford is our current Community Practice Pharmacy Resident.  We are proud to recognize him for his outstanding compassion and dedication to patient care.  Recently, Cole assisted a newly diagnosed diabetic patient who was feeling overwhelmed by upcoming lifestyle changes.

We had an elderly patient in our waiting room who had on a coat and a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. The patient was still cold. Sharon brought several blankets to the patient and bundled her up. This is the second time I have seen Sharon giving blankets to our patients.  This small act of kindness meant a lot to the patient and to me. Thank you Sharon for all you do!  

The average monthly cost a woman spends on feminine hygiene products is approximately $20. for an estimated $18,000 in her lifetime. Women who are less fortunate have barriers to these basic care items, often considering them a luxury expense. CVI's goal: Providing dignity and health through items like pads, tampons, wipes, soap, and deodorant. CVI partnered with Council of Community Services to distribute to those in need. 

Members of the Education & Organizational Development team (E&OD) stuffed 200 ziplock bags with purchased snacks and colorfully hand-decorated lunch bags with motivational art and encouraging words for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Many thanks to Jamie Wagner, Clinical Professional Development Manager, for organizing this activity at this year's E&OD department retreat, and to all the E&OD elves who helped stuff bags and decorate!
