Oral Care Collaboration

Submitted by ribarron on

Somer Chappell, an SLP at CRMH, had the great idea to reach out to the Dental Hygiene Program at Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) and facilitated their participation in providing an oral care presentation to incoming PCT classes.  The students will also team up with CRMH staff to provide oral care education on different units in the hospital. Great idea Somer!

Coordinating Connections That Build the Future

Submitted by kjsweeney on

I'd like to take a moment and recognize Lynn Cowart at Visiting Student Affairs (VSA) for all she does for the students and Carilion staff throughout the year. I cannot imagine all the coordinating that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that students are paired correctly with specific programs, meet all the legal, education, and medical requirements, and stay connected with their schools while completing practicums and internships at Carilion.  I can only speak to how she has helped us at Hospice to coordinate our American Music Therapy Association National Roster Internship.

I want to recognize the Omnicell Admin Team, the CGCH pharmacy staff, the CGCH maintenance staff and TSG  for making the ED Omnicell move for ED flooring replacement seamless and successful!  As a team, we were able to make this work without interruption to patient care and to quickly fix the issue when a couple of towers were slow to return to normal!  Thanks especially to Maelynn and Lacey, Beth (pictured) and Amanda, Jamie, Ryan and Dustin (pictured) ! You all are simply the BEST! Thank you!

Dr. Lana Wahid - Physician Recognition Award - March 2026

Submitted by dkcaldwell on

Dr. Wahid has been working very closely with colleagues outside of the Dept of Medicine in recent months, including Dr. D Kuehl (EM), Dr. Witcher (Neurosurgery), Dr. Armbruster (Gyn Oncology) to support them in our collective efforts to improve research infrastructure at Carilion. A courageous endeavor for a relatively new hire. Along the way she has met with senior leaders, including Drs. Seupaul, Friedlander, and R. Trestman to make this better.

Stepping Up and Stepping In!

Dr. Vishal M. Patel, radiologist, went above and beyond yesterday to assist the Riverside 3 CT department in caring for a patient that needed contrast administered via drain. Ordinarily trauma surgery can send a provider to help with this, but because none were available, Dr. Patel agreed to handle it. This was the patient's third attempt at this exam so Dr. Patel's willingness to step in facilitated the workflow of the department and allowed the patient to complete the scan. We are so very appreciative of his help!
