I wanted to take a moment to recognize the dedicated Privacy Office Team for their hard work and dedication in promoting and protecting our patient’s privacy. Patient trust is at the heart of everything we do. By working together to prioritize privacy and compliance, we not only meet regulatory requirements but also strengthen our relationships with patients and the community we serve.

I've only been a part of the Carilion Family for a little over 2 years but the one person who has helped me and dedicated her time and effort into Carilion and the Community is this incredible woman Karen Mulkey. She wears a couple of hats around CTCH she is the Community Health and Outreach Educator and also the Infection Preventionist.  Her dedication to her jobs and her community is outstanding for lack of a better word. When I started here at CTCH she took me under her wing and guided me along. I am the Community Health and Outreach Worker/Registered Peer Recovery Specialist.

I would like to shout a WOW about CCPT CTL Paul Hickerson.  Paul is always ready to help when and if you need it.  Today he was not the acting CTL and stopped what he was doing to help with a pump issue I was having.  Paul has always been willing to assist any time I have needed help or just had a question.  Thank you Paul for all you do!

from Amanda Robertson, CFMH Nursing Unit Director: While rounding we had an upset patient - patient said she had been told the previous day her long-term ABX would be $20 A DAY. She said she had good insurance but couldn't afford that so when was discharged she would just stop taking the ABX.  I spoke w/Leslie Sechrist who spent most of the day working on her med and insurance.  The next day Leslie reported that she had gotten the medication price down from $20 a day to LESS THAN $20 FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF HER TAKING THE MEDICATION!

CRBH would like to recognize Regan Emrey, RN for a Great Catch.  While completing a thorough physical assessment on a patient, Regan noticed that the patient's bruising on his back had increased significantly.  She immediately brought this worsening condition to the attention of the Attending Provider.  This condition turned out to be a retroperitoneal hematoma.  The patient was eventually transferred to an appropriate facility.  Regan's commitment saved this patient's life.  Regan, CRBH is very proud of you, and is very thankful to have you on the team. 

Congrats to the Neonatal-Pediatric Transport Team on EXCEEDING both of their Operational Goals in FY24. Not only did they exceed our goals, the also exceeded the national averages of first pass intubation success rate for neonates AND for unintentional neonatal hypothermia. Great job, team!

Congratulations to 8M PCU for an incredible achievement—being HAI-free for over a year! Not just CAUTI, not just CLABSI but CAUTI, CLABSI, VAP, AND C. Diff! This milestone reflects your unwavering dedication to patient safety, infection prevention, and exceptional care. Your team's commitment to best practices, vigilance, and collaboration has truly made a difference in creating a safer environment for all patients. Each and every one of you plays a vital role in this success, and your hard work sets an inspiring example for others.

Carilion Hospice of Franklin County participated in the Rotary Club of Franklin County's annual Christmas Parade with a float showcasing the We Honor Veterans Program. Staff and families representing the office are thankful for Justin Laclair, husband of Hospice Massage Therapist Jewel Laclair, for driving the truck and sharing a trailer! A special thank you to CFMH, hospice volunteers, and to staff and colleagues for the donation of candy and help preparing streamers to hand out to parade watchers!

The Recognition Council decided as a teambuilding activity for the holiday season they would like to give back to our community and help support all the wonderful  work that the Roanoke Rescue Mission does!  Volunteers assisted in packing and distributing food boxes.  Twice weekly these food boxes are packed and distributed to those in need (300+ per week).  A great time was had in fellowship working to serve others!
