During the Virginia Pharmacist Association (VPhA) annual meeting on Saturday, Jean Bennett, Region III Administrator for SAMHSA, called Charlie to the stage unexpectedly.  Jean presented Charlie with a Challenge Coin from the U.S. Health and Human Services.  Jean wanted to recognize Charlie's work in substance use disorder, educating the public, and his passion for patients.

Challenge Coins are historically given in military settings to commemorate a service member for going above and beyond their call of duty.

The Department of Medicine celebrated the first cohort of mentors and mentees in the Mentorship Matters program at Medical Grand Rounds on February 3. This is a team-based program which includes specific curriculum focused on career development delivered in a virtual format. The program’s structure, content, and success were presented at the AAMC’s Learn Serve Lead annual meeting in Nashville in November 2022 by Dr. Rebecca Pauly.

February is American Heart Month. Walking up toward the hospital, Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, I was reminded of that simply by noticing our "big red heart". I hope that our heart serves as a reminder to our staff that they will always teach our patients a heart  healthy culture and I hope that our heart serves our community as a reminder that we care about them.

CRBH has some hand hygiene observation superstars!  Together these folks collected almost 800 hand hygiene observations!

Barbara and Jenny work the Main Lobby at CFMH, they started seeing patients coming in for appointments for neurology. Franklin County was glad to welcome Neurology to Rocky Mount, but the office was not on the hospital campus, it was across town.

Hating to see patients park and come in only to find out they were in the wrong place these ladies started working with the patients to try and figure out why they were coming to the hospital.

On January 31st, The Nursing Center of Excellence awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award to Christopher Tomlin, Psych Tech in Behavioral Health.  Leaders from the Nursing Center of Excellence presented him with the award alongside his team members and unit leaders. Zoe Kirk RN, who submitted the nomination said that "Chris is an incredible preceptor and leader. He provides support to all staff during stressful situations. He is extremely knowledgeable on policies.

I am fortunate to be part of such an amazing team!

Katherine was nominated by four of her patients/family members for her commitment during their healing process.

1-Katherine is confident. I just so appreciate her kind, encouraging words and advice during my life-threatening health situation. She took careful time and care with my medication. Double checking on the critical meds. She was so kind and thankful to supporting staff. Loved meeting her, super nurse!

Recently we had a recruitment event offsite at The Franklin Center. Ronnie called me from the hospital, he had someone that had walked to the hospital looking for the event. It was raining and she was dressed nice, so Ronnie drove her to the recruitment event to ensure she made it before the event ended.
