CNRV- First organ donation after brain death case

Submitted by ddsnuffer on

On June 10th, 2022, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center had its first ever organ donation after brain death case. Three lives were saved that day with transplant of the heart, liver and one kidney. We are so very appreciative of all who helped care for our donor patient, their family and in the coordination efforts of this first ever event for our hospital. Our last organ donation case (donation after circulatory death) was close to two decades ago! We are also appreciative to everyone who came together to honor the patient and family in their decision to give the gift of life with the raising of the Donate Life flag at the front of the hospital and in our first Honor Walk ceremony held around 830PM on that Friday night. Every one of our Carilion Values: Collaboration, Commitment, Compassion, Courage and Curiosity shined bright through this very quick, impactful journey! What an amazing, dedicated community we have at CNRV!

If you’re interested in more information about organ, tissue, eye donation please contact Desiree Beasley (CNRV), Dan Freeman (RMH) or Alex Brendel (LifeNet Hospital Development Coordinator). All are available through Carilion email.
