Maintaining Big Hearts
The Maintenance Dept at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital does an amazing job keeping our parking lots and sidewalks cleared and safe for our employees and visitors usually while we are still safe and snug in our warm beds on weekends and nights.
However, this team goes above and beyond that. They look for ways others may need help they can assist.
One small example: An elderly lady lives near the hospital. For years this team has cleaned off a path from her doorway to her vehicle when we have snow. They even clean off her vehicle for her. She relies heavily on her walker. They have done this without being asked, without looking for recognition or even being noticed.
When I talked to this lady she just shrugs and gives one of her amazing grins while saying "people around here just do things for me and I do not even see them or know their names? I don't know what I would do without them"? This lady's obvious appreciation brought tears to my eyes. This is what our true goal should be.
This team displays all of our values but foremost they demonstrate Compassion.
Thank you for showing Commitment to keep this up for many years without any recognition and not allowing the fear and anger we are seeing around us allow these values to digress in any way!
I am privileged to work with and learn from a team like this!
