A Second Hybrid Operating Room Opens at CRMH

By combining a traditional operating room, cath lab and advanced imaging equipment, numerous surgeons, technicians and other providers can work together to complete separate surgeries on the same occasion.

A first for our region, it has allowed us to start doing new types of surgery, like TAVR. Since the first hybrid OR opened, the Structural Heart team has performed over 1,000 TAVRs.

This month, we opened a second hybrid OR on the sixth floor of CRMH that will serve our Aortic Center, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, structural heart, obstetrical and vascular surgery patients. It is currently located in the the CVI OR, but will move to the Crystal Spring Tower once construction on that facility is complete.

“Our second hybrid operating room was designed and built to accommodate the ever-growing need for the minimally invasive complex surgeries we perform only in this type of operating room, said Sandy Sayre, senior director of the Cardiovascular Institute.  “The first hybrid OR was running over 70% utilization, so the second room was needed to expand our surgical programs and manage emergencies.”
