Brandie Bailey and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital Receive Rothman Index 2019 Awards
Carilion Clinic's commitment to providing the best care to our patients was highlighted at Perahealth's Trends 2019 Rothman Index Customer Conference in Baltimore MD on September 26-27.
Brandie Bailey DNP, RN, NEA-BC received the First Annual Peer-Reviewed Publication award at the Trends Rothman Index Customer Conference. Brandie is continuously challenging the status quo and is very passionate about providing the best care possible for Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital's patients. Seeking to determine if an Early Warning System (AKA the Rothman Index) has an impact on patient outcomes, Brandie chose to answer the question scientifically and formally submitted this research work as her Doctorate of Nursing Practice project. She successfully completed an oral defense and is in the final stages of her manuscript submission for publication consideration. Conference leaders congratulated Brandie for advancing nursing practice using the Rothman Index and demonstrating improved patient outcomes as evidenced by reduced code blue events, decreased rapid response events and decreased ICU length of stay!
The Rothman Index (RI) Award for Analytics, given to the organization that has used the power of RI Analytics to drive positive change in healthcare delivery, was awarded to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital (CRMH). CRMH used RI Analytics to track ICU bounce-backs, and through analysis of this data created a new care delivery process that resulted in a 50% reduction in bounce backs, and are continuing to use the tool to monitor sustainability of these results. Additionally, CRMH has used RI Analytics to demonstrate reduction in code blues and ICU length of stay. CRMH also incorporated the use of analytics to support nursing research work. For example, to fulfill a doctorate degree requirement, Brandie Bailey, one of the conference speakers, analyzed the impact the RI had on decreasing code blue events. Other nurse researchers are using RI related data to detect deterioration sooner by improving respiratory rate and Braden Scale documentation. Brandie Bailey, Andy Green, Abronique Berger, and Heather Bramblett accepted the award on behalf of CRMH.
