The Latest on our Proposed Kidney Transplant Program

Early this year, we submitted a Certificate of Public Need (COPN) application to the Virginia Division of COPN (VDCOPN) to start an adult kidney transplant program at CRMH. Throughout the year, we have gathered significant support for our application and began a public campaign during the summer.

• We’ve received support resolutions from 15 cities, counties and towns in our service territory.
• Over 16 community organizations that collaborate with us on care and numerous chambers of commerce have written letters of support.
• The general public has sent over 1,300 support letters to VDCOPN.

“We are very thankful for the significant support for our proposed kidney transplant program so far, and we’re especially thankful for the many patients who’ve chosen to share their stories with us,” said David Salzberg, M.D., a surgeon and Transplant Program Leader. “The outpouring of support is evidence that our communities understand that the best care is local care, and every letter and personal story matters.”

We recently added video screen banners in our hospitals and practices to help employees, patients and visitors learn more about the importance of starting a kidney transplant program in our region. Flyers, tent cards and posters will soon offer information on how to send letters to VDCOPN to express support.
