Paula Louis: Compassion in Bloom!

Submitted by tnmedley on

A few months ago, I received an email from Paula Louis - a Speech Language Pathologist with Rehab. Paula is a gardener and wanted to share her harvest with Carilion patients to brighten their day. She expressed how she wanted to grow, arrange, and distribute flowers to patients who don't often receive deliveries while in the hospital. She hoped they would benefit from something beautiful in their room during their stay.

Yesterday, she brought in a dozen gorgeous mini arrangements of home-grown flowers and herbs. They looked and smelled amazing! In partnership with Volunteer Services, they were distributed to patients on our Palliative and Cancer Care units. The patients were very grateful, and some expressed their amazement that one of our own staff members took the time to grow these flowers for others.

As Roanoke's Volunteer Services Manager, I love receiving requests from colleagues like Paula who want to more deeply serve our patients. Thank you, Paula!
