New Leaders Announced in Facilities and CVI

Submitted by tcholland on

Carilion leaders have made two new hires to streamline operations and improve services and support for clinicians.

Steve Morien has been named Vice President of Facilities for Carilion Medical Center. This is a newly created position that will oversee and streamline facility-related responsibilities, such as engineering and maintenance, among others. He’ll begin on Sept. 16.

Morien comes from Sentara Healthcare where he was Director of Support Operations for seven years. He also led teams in facilities management at NATO and served in the U.S. Navy. He will report to Michael Abbott, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Carilion Medical Center.

"Scott Blankenship, senior director of Facilities Support Services, has filled in for this role amid several leadership changes in the last year and I cannot thank him enough for his hard work and support," says Abbott.

Additionally, Marguerite Underwood has been named Vice President of the Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) after serving in the interim since February. She has been with Carilion since 1999 as a registered nurse. She had been CVI system’s senior director since 2021. Underwood also reports to Abbott.

"Marguerite stepped into this role during a time of major transition, and she has been an innovative, thoughtful and steadfast leader," says Abbott.
