Carilion Names Interim Vice President of Cardiovascular Institute
Marguerite Underwood has been named as the Interim Vice President for the Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute (CVI).
She will start in this position effective Feb. 11.
Marguerite is no stranger to CVI. She has been a collaborative team leader in cardiovascular care since she joined Carilion in 1999 as a registered nurse in the progressive care unit, and later transitioning to a procedural RN and registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer.
In 2011, she was promoted to director of Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Services, then in 2018 became senior director, adding business management to her role. She has been CVI System senior director since 2021.
Marguerite graduated from the Waterford Regional Hospital in Waterford, Ireland and completed her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Nursing from the Western Governors University. She is a registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer, a nurse executive with advanced certification and is certified as a project management professional.
"We’re grateful Marguerite is willing to step up into this leadership role as we continue to grow the cardiovascular programs at Carilion, especially as we transition to a new space in the coming years, " said Michael Abbott, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Carilion Medical Center. "Please join us in congratulating her on this new role!"
