Our Sports Medicine Team Offers Clinics for Student Athletes This Fall

Submitted by aedraper on

Football season is upon us, and if you’re taking in an area high school football game this fall, you’ll notice our Sports Medicine team will be there, too. Every Friday night during football season, one of our physicians or PAs—and often one of our athletic trainers—are on the sidelines at 22 area high schools.

Our Sports Medicine team also offers Sports Injury Clinics at two locations on Saturdays from August 24 through November, so athletes have access to continued care for Friday-night injuries as well as for other fall sports injuries. Our athletic trainers work with coaches and teams at the schools to evaluate injuries, identify treatments needed and cover sports practices during the school week (cross country, volleyball and football in the fall). Sometimes treatment can include visiting a Saturday Sports Injury Clinic.

When an athlete comes into a clinic on Saturday morning, they are evaluated by a Sports Medicine provider, given X-rays if necessary and begin a treatment plan that can include additional imaging studies, bracing or therapy as needed. Coming to a clinic also keeps some athletes from having to go to the emergency room or urgent care. That earlier assessment and injury management often means they miss less school.
