New Orthopaedic Residency Program Welcomes First Residents

Our commitment to medical education continues to deepen, with a new orthopaedic surgery residency program preparing to welcome its first PGY1 class this July.

Each year, four residents will be chosen to take part in the five-year program. By July 2028, it will reach capacity with 20 residents. The program received formal approval in January by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

“We are thrilled to add this program to our department," said program director Jesse Seamon, M.D. "This complements our existing involvement with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC.”

Hundreds of Applications, Four Residents

Our team interviewed 60 medical students from among the hundreds who applied to be part of this first class of residents. Our four first orthopaedic surgery residents were announced on Match Day, Friday, March 15:

• Richard Feng, Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine
• Amritdev Parihar, Indiana University School of Medicine
• Nicholas Peterman, Carle Illinois College of Medicine
• Rishi Sinha, University of California, Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine

“Our program has tremendous offerings for residents to learn and train," said Jonathan Carmouche, M.D., vice chair of Orthopaedic Surgery, "whether through orthopaedic trauma at our Level 1 trauma center, our subspecialty care or research opportunities with our Musculoskeletal Education and Research Center (MERC). We’re excited to welcome them in July and look forward to their contributions and accomplishments.”
