Trauma Outreach Coordinator - American Red Cross Hero Award

Yesterday, Sarah Beth Dinwiddie, the Trauma Outreach Coordinator at our Level 1 Trauma Center received the Medical Hero award from the American Red Cross for her commitment to teaching the Stop The Bleed training.

Stop The Bleed is a national training initiative developed by the American College of Surgeons as a result of the Sandy Hook school shootings. It teaches bystanders how to save lives by controlling bleeding on the scene until EMS can arrive.
This knowledge is helpful to us in everyday situations, as well. Trail running, hiking, biking, four-wheeling and other recreational pastimes can result in significant injury and often occur in isolated areas. Farm tractors and large machinery used in our rural communities bring a risk of injury and bleeding, too. Providing emergency treatment can make a difference in whether someone has a successful recovery.

Among the folks Sarah Beth has taught are school teachers, librarians, police officers, boy scouts and Carilion Clinic staff.
