Shoes4Hope Returns To Help Us Fight Pediatric Cancer

We've teamed up for the second consecutive year with Virginia Tech Athletics and Shoes4Hope, an organization that inspires hope and helps our youngest cancer patients. 

Together with their players, men's basketball head coach Mike Young and women's basketball head coach Kenny Brooks invited 12 Pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients and their family members to the Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center to design and paint sneakers that the coaches will wear at Coaches vs. Cancer games in Blacksburg early next year.

Coaches vs. Cancer is an annual nationwide effort of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society. The program features collegiate basketball coaches and staff members wearing decorated sneakers at designated games to raise cancer awareness. 

The women's basketball coaches and staff will wear the special sneakers at the Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, game against N.C. State in Cassell Coliseum. The men's basketball coaches and staff will wear their sneakers on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, when the Hokies host Miami. 

After the games, the sneakers will be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Children's Hematology and Oncology to help our doctors, nurses and staff continue their cancer-fighting work.
