imPACT Award

Submitted by amsemones on

Congratulations to Bethany David, RN on 7S ICU for being our first individual imPACT Award Winner! Bethany was nominated by a fellow nurse who noted Bethany’s critical thinking and applauded her curiosity and empowerment to ensure that we didn’t continue a treatment that was potentially harmful for one of her patients. She received an admission from an outside facility with a chronic foley. Bethany couldn’t identify any supporting evidence of why the foley was needed, so she removed it. The patient began voiding on their own. Bethany's efforts to provide the best care and advocate for her patient very likely prevented unnecessary harm to the patient. As we know, catheter associated urinary tract infections increase morbidity and mortality of our patients,  increasing their lengths of stay and use of resources to care for them. Bethany demonstrated discernment and great critical thinking by following best practice guidelines, all while remaining focused on providing compassionate care for the patient. Thank you, Bethany, for providing such a shining example of curiosity, not just accepting the status quo, and by demonstrating the courage to do the right thing for our patients.
