Congratulations to Htin Dingra, RN - 9 MTN ICU, CRMH on winning the DAISY award for July 2023!
DAISY nurses, like Htin, demonstrate amazing compassion and true caring for our families in their time of distress in the face of trauma and tragedy. His story below, truly tells of how much caring he showed for this precious family in a time of need. Please take a moment to read his amazing story.
Recently, our unit began taking pediatric traumas, as we are primarily an adult Neurotrauma ICU. Our first pediatric trauma came in, and it ended up being worst case scenario. This patient had been in a "freak accident" and ended up being declared brain dead, and the parents decided to pursue organ donation. Between watching the care that the patient received, as well as providing care for the patient myself, I am so honored to call Htin my coworker. Htin helped admit this patient the afternoon that he came in, stabilized him over night, as well as cared for him once he had transitioned to donor status. The parents expressed to me that this patient was deeply involved in his church, and the day before his accident, he had talked about wanting to be baptized to ensure that when he died, he would be able to go to heaven to see his late Papa again. With a little bit of coordination while handing this patient off to him, Htin was able to get the chaplain in his room and get him baptized the night before his organ harvest. Watching Htin provide care to this patient describes exactly what the Daisy award stands for- extraordinary care. Htin went above and beyond to help this family celebrate this kid's life, honor his last wishes, as well as supporting his family during their darkest times.
