Youth Volunteers Return!
No disrespect to Paul Revere and the Red Coats, but the Blue Shirts are back!
For the first time since 2019, youth volunteers have returned to Carilion Clinic. Because of the global pandemic, the Summer Youth program was suspended for several summers. But Guest Services is proud to welcome a fresh-faced group of youth volunteers in Roanoke, New River Valley and Franklin facilities. Some youth volunteer because they are interested in a career in health care. Others come because they just want to help people.
The youth are providing service to our patients, guests and staff in a variety of roles. Serving coffee in Roanoke, tidying up the clothes closet in Frankln and escorting and playing the piano at CNRV are just a few of the many service jobs youth are performing. The staff on CRMH 10West welcomed their volunteer with a banner that trumpeted her name! A special thank you to all the units that are offering these teens a chance to develop skills that will help them become productive adults.
The youth wear a uniform of light blue golf shirts and khaki pants or skirts. If you see one, please make them feel welcome. Unfortunately, Volunteer Services is no longer accepting applications for this summer's program, but if you know any youth, please encourage them to join us next year.
